Wood Floor Installation
|
Hardwood flooring is a timeless classic. Hardwood is a beautiful hard surface finish with more species, stains and styles than can be listed here. Wood floors hold and add value to a home or commercial office better than any other flooring surface available. Hardwood is the only flooring surface that seems to improve with age, if treated correctly. Hardwood is also great for those who suffer from severe allergies or are vulnerable to dust, dirt, or other airborne allergens. Hardwood is offered in all kinds of forms now including the classic solid and several sizes and thicknesses of engineered. These woods can be installed as nail down, glue down and even floating depending on manufacturing specifications.
Hiring the right hardwood installer can be the difference between 2 months of beauty or 20 years. Many pre-finished hardwoods out there today are warranted for greater lengths of time due to the advancement of the stains and finishes to the hardwood. These warranties are only good if the installation is done correctly.
Also, always check with your retail salesperson to make sure you have all the appropriate transitions for your doorways and openings to other flooring surfaces. Transitions, when needed, will ensure a smooth change from surface to surface in your home or business.
SAND & REFINISH
Sand & finish is a great way to give old floors a brand new look. Solid hardwood and even some engineered hardwood can be sanded down to the unfinished wood and a new stain color selected and applied if desired. This will generally clean up scratches and dents in the floor. The sand & finish process has been improved over the years and now minimizes the dust released into the air. No sand and finish process is completely dust-free, but clean up is much easier now. Be prepared to stay off the areas being sanded and refinished for a few days, depending on the square footage being done. Generally there is one coat of stain and three coats of polyurethane, which all have to dry separately. The time and money put into this is definitely worth the reward, as you will virtually have new floors in your home or office!
